Prairie CreekJust east of Gainesville, Prairie Creek drains Newnans Lake into the North end of Paynes Prairie. The Creek used to cross the Prairie, but was damned by cattlemen. Water flowed along dykes into Orange Lake via Camp's Canal and River Styx. Nature has reclaimed the waterway, making it one of Central Florida's beautiful reserves.
